And the chaos mentioned last weekend did indeed continue.

After the jubilee parties it was a trip up to Dundee, which Rabbie has outlined very well in her blog, but needless to say there was beaches, boats, pies, museums, adventuring, more beaches, painting and lots and lots of laughs.

It was the good kind of holiday where much fun was had by all, but also where I got to take a backseat and rest a bit. Rabbie kindly did all the driving, for which I am eternally grateful!

Now, I mentioned painting, in this case it was pottery painting and I am looking forward to the results! But there was more crafting than just that…

So long story short, I saw wool that had been hand dyed inspired by the various Eeveelutions. I was unable to get said wool, and subsequently Rabbie suggested we could do our own Eeveelution scarves… Seeing as I have a of wool, and she has a loom knitting machine…

I won’t lie, I am super happy with how they came out!

Rabbies Instagram post focuses on the classic trio – Flareon, Vaporeon and Jolteon, so I will give you just the close up of the Umbreon set we made, a classic and shiny colour way.

And with that, I bid you farewell for this week. I am knackered, in a good way, but also chipping away at all the things that have to be done when you leave the house for over a week!

It’s been a quiet week for the most part, which is good, I don’t think we could all handle any more crazy! Though speaking of crazy…last night we did an early Burns Night celebration with the family on Skype. There was poetry readings, show and tell, gossip, laughter and general shenanigans.

My home sickness has been bad throughout lockdown. Typically I visit my family three to four times a year and a handful of the family visit me once or twice in return. This hasn’t happened. I’ve moped, and sulked, and played the ‘what if’ game but last night, I realised it had morphed, very slowly, to a sweet pang of nostalgia. A contented ‘this is good’ rather than a ‘I want more’. My friend from Australia told me at the start of the pandemic that this would happen and despite me disbelief at the time, yeah, it really does.

On a less sappy note, knitting! Penguins are plodding on their long march to December, my other big project is ticking away in the background but I know already it’ll soon be in hold so I can spin more wool for it, and a quick little knit was slipped in at the kids request:

Its the same free pattern (Snake Coil Cowl by Ariel Woods) that I knit previously my Felix – the terrors fell in love with this slow gradient wool and with the weather being so wet and soggy and things needing constantly washed and/or dried, it made sense for them to have a spare.

Hence my Sssleepy snake pun at the statrt. I am sleepy. I think the world is feeling the same so I won’t sit here and moan.

Not much else to report at the moment, so until next week, stay safe.

It’s been busy since my last post – despite losing three days to the plague (some viral infection that resulted in me seeing black spots during coughing fits, and left me so short of breath I was unable to go up/down the stairs without a break halfway up/down) – I have managed to tie up the ends of a few projects, Felix has had her fifth birthday and there was a crazy cat party with 30+ around five year old kids, with games, activities and even a wizard!

Rabbie has done a good post that covers more on that last bit!

Needless to say I am exhausted! But it’s been worth it, Felix was so happy and excited!

And that leads us to both the lion and mice part of this post. Mice first:

A few more mice where knitted, but more importantly, I finished the cat of the ‘Feed the Cat’ game. Here it is having survived the party, in pretty good shape all things considered!

The lion:

I’ve wanted to make Missy, my dog-niece, something for a while, and even though she wasn’t going to Felix’s cat birthday party, I wanted her to join in. Originally I was planning on mostly following the pattern ( To humiliate the dog by Amoena Online – its a free and very cute mouse/reindeer doggy costume pattern) and adding cat ears…but somehow I ended up doing loop stitch and making it into a lion’s mane…

She’s a big dog, so maybe she needed to be a big cat…?

So incredibly cute!

And lastly, crocodiles. Well, crocodile, singular.

The mini crocodile scarf I had made previous was mislaid last winter, as happens with small children, at the time Felix was good about it and accepted a quick knit black scarf I threw together.

When digging out the winter woolies for this year, however, she once again spotted my crocodile scarf, grabbed it and paraded about in it like a shawl…before asking where hers was…

To which Daddy then said ‘wheres her crocodile scarf? Have you not made her another yet?’

Sigh. So I’ve made another for this winter…hopefully it won’t get lost!

There used to be only 151 Pokémon, now, there are 802 Pokémon in total, (without including Mega Evolutions and Alola Forms, which are variations of existing Pokémon).

I’m not surprised to say the least, it’s a fun, catchy anime that has had generations of kids worldwide hooked. For me, it was the first gen, the original red, blue and yellow games.

And now, my nephew is hooked also. As I said in my previous post, I was going to make him a Pokémon themed scarf as I had made a Pusheen scarf for my neice.

When I mentioned this to Engel, and showed him the few patterns available!! online – pikachu or pokeball themed – he immediately told me to make a gyarados scarf (one of the original 151 Pokémon) as it had a long snake like body so would lend well to the shape of a scarf.

There weren’t any patterns available so once again, I cracked out the paper and pencils and got to work making my own pattern. I’m not publishing it as I somewhat doubt anyone else is going to be mad enough to make one! (There’s 34 pieces to it!) If I’m wrong, tell me!

Without further ado: Gyrados!

That’s all for this post, I have both a small project and a large project on the needles, so hopefully I’ll have one finished for next week!

Just back from a week long family holiday in Wales, there were steam engines, beaches, swimming, fishing, arts and crafts, shows, feeding (and attempted catching) of ducks interspersed with eating and sleeping.  However a distinct lack of cats…

I could do with a holiday from my holiday!

But between all that, snatched in quiet moments, I managed to not just complete a project, but actually design one! So without further ado, my Pusheen the Cat Scarf pattern!

You can find the pattern in the free patterns section or click on the link above.

The reason behind this one is that my neice adores Pusheen and I wanted to make a little something for her Christmas. Also scarves are always a good choice in Scotland! Next up: A gyrados scarf for my nephew!

Busy busy!

Just a short post to say my Easter has been busy but fine – even with all the gardening and the thunderstorms! I managed to mostly avoid being outside during the thunderstorms but the few seconds I was out…

Anyhow. Felix had fun, too much chocolate was consumed, cakes got baked, crafty things were made and the houses was turned upside down only twice.

Amongst this, I finished knitting the squares for the blanket. And some. Will blog later when I feel like I won’t murder my cats and the blanket is sewn.

You can instead look at this mini knit I did during the week:

It’s (another) Miss Marple scarf, present for Engels godmother for her birthday.

There will be a much longer and more entertaining post next week.

Several years ago, before Felix, I made myself a crocodile scarf (the pattern was from an old let’s knit magazine) and after wearing it that winter, it got shoved into the box of spare scarves and gloves and forgotten.

One day, looking for anything that Felix might agree to wear that was warm, she spotted the crocodile scarf and has since worn it like a shawl around herself.

It was adorable, and warm, and I never thought more about it.

The other day she got a toy cat that came with a lilac sparkly scarf with fluffy white trim. After one look at it, and a testing cuddle, she demanded the offending purple fluffy thing be removed and replaced with its own crocodile scarf.

I was about to tell her not to be silly when Engel replied ‘of course mummy will make Whiskers (the toy cat) one!’

Out came the pattern and one was made in miniature. And I have to admit, the photo bombed pictures of Felix hugging that cat wearing its scarf and squealing ‘thank you mummy! Love you!’ does make it worthwhile…but they’re for my private collection, so you’ll have to make do with the cat by itself.

He is cute with it on…

Besides this scarf, I made Engel another pair of armwarmers. Same pattern, same wool, same colours. Boring!

Quiet week otherwise. Well, a slow one. Redundancies have been announced at work so I’m playing the waiting game to see if I’ll be staying or going.

I’ve begun to stress knit…wool tension is through the roof though…

Engels incredibly bright, not too warm-not too cold blanket, as per his request. Snuggles decided to photo bomb the photo shoot as the sea of green was just destroying my retinas…

And yes, this wool is just that bight. Its neon. And UV reactive. It actually glows under black lights!

The pattern is based on the ‘Weekend TV Lapghan‘ by Lionbrand, different needles and wool used, and subsequently this was the monster of a blanket where I accidentally cast on three times the number of stitches

But that is the last of the blankets! For now.

I’ve got another bunny commission on at the moment, so a pause on the personal projects, though I did squeeze these in:

These are based on the ‘Miss Marple Scarf‘ pattern by SusanneS-vV. The black one is for Felix as the weather gets cooler, and the pink one is a gift for one of Engels relatives. The photo was taken at a sushi place in Manchester which is where I did the final bits of the pink one, along with some very yummy salmon and cracked black pepper with rice…

Other updates: Life, super busy, between work, Engel, and the growing terror that is an almost two year old Felix, very little time is left for much else!

Wool update: The past two weeks, seven! Very nearly finished a few more, but colour changes, I’ll have to go back to those later…
